First of all, let us introduce you to a place, that is more than just an accommodation. Iya onsen is an excellent location for soaking up the beauty of Iya’s natural surroundings and spectacular views. As a matter of fact, it is the only Hotel in Iya Valley. First of all, take a five-minute cable car ride some 170 meters down into the valley, to reach the Hotel. As you arrive down to the valley, you are greeted by the staff and are led to your accommodation. The Hotel has superb rooms (some of them with a magnificent view to the valley). Moreover, every reservation includes breakfast and dinner. Meals are sourced and created with local vegetables and seasonal delights.
Hotel Iya onsen – rotenburo, or open air bath is our favorite feature. According to the Hotel’s website the water has a pH of 9.1, and is a simple alkaline sulfur hot spring. Furthermore, the water has a slippery, soft quality and has a good balance of minerals.
The Seseragi-no-yu (more intimate and less light) and Keikoku-no-yu baths (open view to the valley and more light) alternate for men and women every day. Due to this switching system, overnight guests can enjoy different views in the morning and the evening. Finally, there is a private open-air bath that can be reserved for a fee. Here, guests can relax even more knowing that they will not be disturbed. It is called Yamagiri-no-yu. Enjoy the isolation and the sounds of nature while having the bath. After your relaxing onsen experience, a calm good night sleep and a delicious breakfast sourced from high-quality local products, now you are ready to discover Iya Valley on a day trip.
